Gentle daily routine for your 0-6 months old baby
Bringing home a newborn is magical, but let’s be honest- it can also be overwhelming. Between feedings, diaper changes and sleepless nights. it’s easy to feel like your days( and nights) blur together.
While every baby is different , having a gentle daily routine for your 0-6 months old can bring some much needed rhythm and calm to your life – and your baby’s too.
In this post , we’ll walk you through what a typical day might look like for a baby in their first six months, you can build a routine that can work for your unique little one.
Morning : Wake , Feed & cuddle (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM)
Most babies wake up between 6:00 and 8:00 AM . After night of interrupted sleep, this is a sweet time to bond
What to Expect:
1- Feeding-Whether you’re breastfeeding or formula feeding, offer full feed soon after waking.
2- Diaper change- Always check and change that diaper – a dry bum makes a happy baby.
3-Talk and Cuddle- Morning smiles, soft talking or even a little baby massage can help can help start the day on a positive note.
Mid Morning: Nap time & Independent play(9:00AM- 1:00PM)
young babies get tired quickly. After about 60-90 minutes of awake time, your baby will likely be ready for a nap.
What to Expect:
1- Nap Time-Newborn naps may be short (30-45 minutes) but get longer as they grow
2- Tummy time- For babies 1 month and older , short tummy time sessions help strengthen neck and core muscles.
3- Gentle Play- A soft rattle or just your face and are enough voice are enough stimulation for a young baby.
4-Nap#2- Most babies need another nap around mid -morning or lunchtime.
watch for sleepy signs like eye rubbing or fussiness.
Afternoon(1:00PM- 4:00 PM)
1-Feeding & Diaper change
2-Interactive Time-More play ,reading or soft music. This is also a good time for short outings.
3-Nap#3- Babies often take a third Nap in the afternoon ,lasting 30-90 minutes.
Some babies take longer naps; others nap in shorter stretches. Both are normal.
Early evening(4:00PM - 7:00PM)
1-Short wake time- Babies may get fussier in the evening. Keep stimulation low.
2-Feeding- offer a final evening feeding.
3-Bedtime routine- Dim lights, Soft lullabies and a consistent order of events help signal bedtime.
4-Night sleep begins-Most babies are ready to sleep for the night between 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
Overnight(7:00 PM -6:00AM )
1-Night Feeding- In the first 3 months, expect feedings every 2-4 hours.
2-Keep Nighttime Calm- No bright lights or playtime. Quiet and comfort -focused.
3-Sleep Progression- Around 4-6 months, some babies may start sleeping longer stretches.
